Dun Laoghaire 1903 – Vintage Irish Seaside Pier and Harbour

In 1903, Dun Laoghaire then commonly known as Kingstown was a thriving harbour town on Dublin Bay, built around one of the largest artificial harbours in the world, originally completed in the mid-19th century to provide a safe refuge for ships and mail packet services. The granite East and West Piers had become familiar landmarks, with the Carlisle Pier connecting sea and rail traffic and serving as a busy point of departure and arrival for passengers and emigrants alike. Around the turn of the century, the town combined seaside leisure with maritime commerce, as locals and visitors strolled the piers, enjoyed views across Dublin Bay, and watched steamships come and go against the backdrop of the Wicklow hills.
