About 200 US businesses have been hit by a "colossal" ransomware attack, according to a cyber-security firm. The hack targeted Florida-based IT company Kaseya before spreading through corporate networks that use its software. The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, a federal agency, said in a statement that it was taking action to address the attack. The cyber-breach emerged on Friday 2nd July as companies across the US were clocking off for the long Independence Day weekend.

The two big things that are keeping cyber-security professionals up at night are ransomware attacks and supply chain attacks. This latest ransomware attack combines both nightmares into one big Independence Holiday weekend-ruining event for hundreds of US IT teams.

Incidents of ransomware attacks have exploded in the past year, aided by ease of payment with the rise of cryptocurrency and an increase in working from home making computers more vulnerable.

Kaseya is software used to monitor and manage servers and network infrastructures. Once Kaseya software gets infected this software may infect the business networks it is monitoring.

Updates Regarding VSA Security Incident:
1. All On-Premises VSA Servers should continue to remain offline until further instructions from Kaseya about when it is safe to restore operations. A patch will be required to be installed prior to restarting the VSA. We plan to give our first time estimate in tomorrow morning’s update at approximately 9:00 AM EDT.

2. SaaS & Hosted VSA Servers will become operational once Kaseya has determined that we can safely restore operations.

3. Customers who?experienced ransomware and?receive communication from the attackers?should?not click on?any?links, as?they?may be weaponized.
