The 1837 Threepence obverse features the bare head of King William IV facing right, with the surrounding legend: 'GULIELMUS IIII D:G: BRITANNIAR:REX F:D:'. The UK 1837 Threepence reverse shows the royal crown above the number '3', with the date divided to either side. A wreath with a bow at the base surrounds the main design.
Like the sixpence, the threepenny piece first appeared as a silver coin.
