The 1916 Threepence obverse features the bare head of King George V facing left, with the legend: 'GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMN:REX F.D.IND:IMP:'. The UK 1916 Threepence reverse shows the royal crown above the number '3', with the date divided to either side. A wreath with a bow at the base surrounds the main design.
Like the sixpence, the threepenny piece first appeared as a silver coin.
