The 1955 Threepence obverse features the laureate bust of young Queen Elizabeth II facing right, with the surrounding legend: '+ ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F:D:'. The UK 1955 Threepence reverse shows an encircled portcullis with chains either side. Above is a crown, to either side are the words 'THREE' and 'PENCE', and below is the date.

The designer's initials, Mary Gillick, can be found under the portrait.
The reverse (back) side of the coin features the denomination "SIXPENCE" along with the year "1955." The reverse design has a crowned lion standing on its hind legs holding a shield.
